Folding bike in Berlin

Berlin is big and flat: ideal for combining bike and train. Ride your STRIDA to the nearest S-Bahn or U-Bahn station, fold it in seconds and take it along, without a bike ticket and also in rush hour.

U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus (BVG, VBB)

In the VBB network a fully folded bike counts as hand luggage and travels free, on every service and at any time. A bike that is not folded needs a bike ticket.

By train (Deutsche Bahn)

A folded folding bike travels free as hand luggage on all DB trains, without a bike ticket or reservation; stow it like luggage and keep aisles and doors clear. Folded, a STRIDA measures approx. 113–115 × 51 × 23 cm.

Your employer and tax

With a company bike through salary conversion (Dienstrad-Leasing) only 0.25% of the list price a month counts as a taxable benefit; provided on top of your salary, nothing does. Both until the end of 2030. The commuting allowance in your tax return is €0.38 per kilometre from the first kilometre, by bike too. More from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

ModelList priceA quarter, rounded down to €100Taxable benefit a month (1%)
STRIDA LT€1,149€200€2.00
STRIDA 5 QR+€1,199€200€2.00
STRIDA SX€1,249€300€3.00

How it works: the list price is divided by four and rounded down to whole hundreds; 1% of that is added to your taxable income each month. You do not pay that small amount: you pay the leasing instalment from your gross salary, which lowers your income tax and social contributions, and on the benefit you only pay tax at your own rate (for example €2.00 × 35% ≈ €0.70 a month). If your employer provides the bike on top of your salary, the benefit is €0.

Which STRIDA suits Berlin?

Berlin is flat but distances are long: the SX with 18 inch wheels rolls more calmly over long stretches and cobbles, while the LT and 5 QR+ fold the most compact for busy trains and old stairwells. All three run on an oil-free belt instead of a chain.

A STRIDA needs little maintenance: no chain to oil and a belt that lasts a long time. And what does need doing, you can mostly do yourself: the wheels are mounted on one side only, so you change a tyre without taking the wheel out of the frame, and our manuals guide you step by step. Still stuck, or no time? Give us the name and e-mail address of a bike shop near you: we will introduce ourselves and help them with advice and parts.

We only use these details to e-mail the bike shop once and send you a copy. We keep them for at most 2 years.
