Understanding the New U.S. Import Duties on Taiwanese Goods

Even though our website operates from the Netherlands, STRIDA bikes, parts, and accessories are manufactured in Taiwan. Because of this, the U.S. import duties for Taiwanese goods apply when these products are imported into the United States.

Previous Import Duty: 11%

Before the new tariffs, a bicycle imported from Taiwan was subject to an 11% import duty (based on its tariff class and production in Taiwan. If the base price of the bike was $1,000, the import duty would have added $110, making the total cost $1,110.

February ‘26 Trade Agreement — Tariffs Set at 15 %

Under the U.S.–Taiwan Agreement on Reciprocal Trade signed in February 2026:

U.S. import tariff on Taiwanese goods is capped at 15 %.
This rate is applied without stacking on top of other tariff rates and brings Taiwanese products in line with tariff treatment for many other major trading partners.

Final STRIDA bicycle Import Duty for the US: 15%

For a bicycle imported into the U.S. that is manufactured in Taiwan: Import duty — 15 % of the declared customs value.
If the declared customs value is $1,000, the duty would be $150, making the total cost after duty $1,150.

This 15 % tariff replaces earlier provisional rates and is now the standard reciprocal tariff applied to most Taiwanese exports to the U.S., including bikes, unless a specific exemption applies.

Parts and accessories can have lower rates. For example, if the HS-tariff (import tariff) rate is 5% on a part, the duties rate will stay 5%.

Possible Exemption — 11 % Duty May Apply

Under the February 2026 U.S.–Taiwan Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, more than 2,000 Taiwanese product categories are exempt from the 15 % reciprocal tariff and remain subject only to the standard U.S. Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) duty. At this time, it is not yet fully clear whether bicycles (HS 8712) are included in that exemption list. If bicycles are confirmed to be exempt, the applicable U.S. import duty would revert to the standard MFN rate of approximately 11 %, rather than the 15 % reciprocal tariff.
