Madrid has long distances and plenty of hills, which is why combining a bike with the Metro, EMT buses or Cercanías works so well. A STRIDA folds in seconds and travels with you like hand luggage.
Bus (EMT)
You may board with a folded bike the size of hand luggage, depending on how full the bus is: folded before boarding, one bike per bus, on the middle platform and held by you. Wheelchairs and pushchairs have priority when space runs out.
Metro de Madrid and Cercanías
On the Metro folding bikes may always travel; regular bikes are restricted in weekday rush hours. Cercanías trains always accept a folded bike, depending on how full the train is.
Your employer and tax
In Spain we know of no national tax benefit for a bike through your job (October 2026). Under the new Sustainable Mobility Act (Ley 9/2025), companies with more than 200 employees must have a commuting plan in which cycling can play a part: ask your employer. Know a scheme? Let us know.
Which STRIDA suits Madrid?
Madrid is hilly and a STRIDA has one gear, so on the longest climbs you combine with the Metro. The LT and 5 QR+ are the lightest and most compact for the bus; the SX with 18 inch wheels is more comfortable along Madrid Río and on longer rides. All three run on an oil-free belt.

Maintenance in Madrid
With no chain and no oil, maintaining a STRIDA is simple: our manuals let you do it yourself, and every part is in stock, for older models too. If you prefer a local workshop, we help them with advice and parts.
A STRIDA needs little maintenance: no chain to oil and a belt that lasts a long time. And what does need doing, you can mostly do yourself: the wheels are mounted on one side only, so you change a tyre without taking the wheel out of the frame, and our manuals guide you step by step. Still stuck, or no time? Give us the name and e-mail address of a bike shop near you: we will introduce ourselves and help them with advice and parts.Put us in touch with your bike shop →
