Since 14 May 2025 the RATP allows folding bikes on the Paris metro. With a STRIDA, folded in seconds, you combine cycling with the metro, RER, bus and tram, and it fits easily in a small flat or under your desk.
Metro, RER, bus and tram (RATP)
A folded folding bike is allowed every day and at any time, as long as it does not get in other passengers’ way and you hold it by hand. If it does not fit through the gate, staff open the wide gate for you. Non-folding bikes are still not allowed on the metro, buses and trams.

By train (SNCF, Transilien, TER, TGV)
Folded, a folding bike travels as luggage at no extra cost, also on the TGV (in a bag on TGV INOUI and Ouigo).
Your employer and tax
Private employers can pay you a tax-free mobility allowance (forfait mobilités durables) for cycling to work: up to €600 a year, or €900 together with a public transport pass. It is optional for employers. See service-public.gouv.fr.
Does your employer pay this on top of your salary? With €600 a year, a STRIDA from €1,149 pays for itself in about 23 months.
An indication based on the rules as known in October 2026. Check the current rules with your employer or the tax authority in your country; STRIDA is not liable for outdated or incorrect information.
Purchase grant from Île-de-France Mobilités
Île-de-France Mobilités helps residents of the region buy a bike, folding bikes included: up to 50% of the price, with a cap per type of bike, for a bike bought from a professional seller. The current amount, the conditions and the online application are on the IDFM website; check there that your purchase qualifies before you order.

Servicing your STRIDA in Paris
Few parts, no chain, no oil: looking after a STRIDA is within reach of anyone. Our manuals show each job step by step, and almost every part is in stock, also for older STRIDAs. Would you rather have it done? Take it to a trusted bike shop near you and have them get in touch at info@strida.nl: we are happy to advise them and send the right parts.
A STRIDA needs little maintenance: no chain to oil and a belt that lasts a long time. And what does need doing, you can mostly do yourself: the wheels are mounted on one side only, so you change a tyre without taking the wheel out of the frame, and our manuals guide you step by step. Still stuck, or no time? Give us the name and e-mail address of a bike shop near you: we will introduce ourselves and help them with advice and parts.Put us in touch with your bike shop →
